Hanging
by David Bostedo
This is a spider that was hanging out on my third floor deck. How he got up there I have no idea... but he built a huge web connecting the railing to the ceiling. He was large himself, maybe 1 1/2 or 2 inches across including the legs.
So I set up the camera at night, and used live view to focus in the dark, then took some shots with the flash. (There was a bit of ambient light but very little.) I thought the glow and detail that turned out were great, but I did miss focus on quite a few. The legs on this aren't entirely in focus, but I don't think it detracts too much. And I didn't get another chance either, as the spider is gone - a victim of birds I'd guess.
Being taken in the dark, the white balance was pretty much whatever I thought it should be. I cooled this down quite a bit from the flash temp, and thought it showed the detail best, even though the spider was a browner than this. Does that work? Anyone want to see it warmer?
Thanks for looking...

Cool Orb shot! Your white balance choice works well with the dark background. Nice placement of the spider in this image. Great Work!
