Nikon D300; Sigma 500 4.5; f 7.1 @1/1250th; ISO 320; HH; 80% FF.

While kayaking in a marsh a few days ago, I let the wind push me up on a mud flat where this bird was feeding. I was slouched down in the kayak, with only my head and the camera showing.

The bird ended up spending most its time within the MFD of 15 feet of my lens, but I was able to watch it at close quarters for over 10 minutes and get some shots too.

All comments and suggestions most welcome.

Fantastic detail in the larger image, Tom. I like the pose and eye contact. Perfect dof, and your low angle provided the nice bg.
Excellent.

Sweet shot Tom. The sharpness and detail on the bird are as good as it gets. Nice habitat and light too. Excellent work.
