Hello everybody,
I chose this title because this is one of the possible derivations of the name Carduus, and it seems very pertinent to this plant.
Taken last May early in the morning in the Ligurian Apennines.

40D 60mm
f10 1/125
ISO 400
-0,33

Thanks for viewing.
C&C are very welcome. :wavey:

Color and detail excellent. Tough light to work with and I think you did very well holding down highlights.

Excellent detail Monica. You've done a really fine job of showing the plant's structure. No suggestions.

Ditto on the detail being excellent. And that you handled the brighter light well. I also like the colors in this and the background.

Monica, I agree with the handling of the light comments from others  - this flower resembles a Thistle though it might not be one. All I ask for is a 1 pixel white border to separate the photo from the black background.

MOnica:
You handled the strong directional light well here. The strong shadow brings out the form of this flower very nicely.

This seems like a very difficult display to compose and I think you have done a good job here. My attention is really wrapped up in the color and detail you captured at the top!

The comp is what most strikes me about this image, Monica. The flower almost completely fills the canvas but it does not look crowded. About half of the canvas is filled with shades of green while the other half is mainly occupied with shades of magenta. Along with the black bg and frame the whole thing certainly seizes our attention. Very fine work.
