I had a blast with these birds and some Yellow Warblers, and female Bobolinks, and sparrows with yellow in them too, at the Brigantine section of the EB Forsthe NWR last week,..it was a yellow bird day! They were all over the place and a little "pishing" would bring them up out of the marsh. I love their perky little attitudes! A little more dof would have been better on this to get the feet in focus too, but they move faster than I can think! Still happy with quite a few of my shots...a lot more keepers than tossers for me....getting there slow but sure!
Is the bright spot too much of a distraction on this?

50D, 500mm, ISO 200, 1/250, F4 LARGER version also posted...thanks for your comments!

Gorgeous, Sharon. Incredibly sharp and I love the lighting and head turn. The forked branches frame the Warbler very well.

Super sharp and detailed around the eye and head and that works well for me given the bird's head turn pose. Does not look like you could have stopped down for more DOF given your already slow SS. Well done.

Sharon,
Nice sharp image with a good head turn. Excellent feather detail along with a good highlight is it's eye.
It's very interesting how long the claws are on it's feet.

Terrific! Great pose; strong composition. No problem for me with the background spot.

I love the composition. I don't think the bright spot is distracting. I think it adds to the image. It partially serves to make the head stand out better, keeping the eye focused on the head. It also balances out the brighter yellow of the bird's body. I think the image would look a little lopsided without it (but still very good). I've tried blocking out the bright spot with my thumb, which in my dimly lit room is more akin to the rest of the background in tone, and I definitely prefer the version with th ebright spot. I also love the fact that, bright spot not withstanding, there is little to distract from the main subject, the bird and its attitude. It's a lovely unencumbered portrait that captures something of the bird's personality.

Like the way the dark background really brings out the colors in the bird.

Excellent image Sharon. I like the forked perch. It frames the bird very nicely.
