Shadows of Titan

The Vision:
I couldn't help but think of Saturn's Moon, Titan. A fascinating moon with a dense atmosphere and Earth-like terrain. A recent discovery is that rain falls in the form of methane in a cool -180 degree land. I have always been fascinated with planets and space and this composition feed that perfectly. This is my vision. A short glimpse if one penetrated the thick atmosphere of organic smog on Titan.

The Story:
The badlands is such a fascinating place and this particular morning yielded some great conditions. After a night of rain and already wet conditions, thick fog and rain moved in over the Sage Creek Basin overlook. Cool and steady rain made it so much fun to shoot.
There were times the landscape was barely visible and I just shot away finding patches of mysterious landscape beneath the mist. I took so many of these shots.

Artistic approach: What you see has not been altered much. I purposely cooled off the wb in camera and then processed accordingly. I also said "forget that" to the bubble level and purposely skewed the angle creating a more celestial landscape. Sometimes it's fun to play.

Thanks again for your time and comments

This photo has great "mood".
Nice description, too.
I like the monotone effect. The foreground ridges act as leading lines to the nebulous background and the mystery contained therein. Nice texture and composition.
Gutsy attempt and great result in my opinion.

I could definitely picture myself in a ship flying above Titan's surface in this shot. Very creative Anthony!

I can see what you were after, and it certainly does look moon like. The overall image, however, doesn't really draw me in.

Thanks Larry, I appreciate your imagination with me
Thanks Joseph, Eva, and Floris
Floris- your not supposed to be drawn in  So I guess I was successful in that respect
Much like approaching the surface of Titan, while fascinating, you wouldn't feel a sense of hospitality
I like the uninvited feel of this. I realize shots as this don't strike everyones fancy but I'm strongly attracted to mood, abstract, and bw's
While a fiery sunset is more palable to most it doesn't satisfy my appetite (photographically).
That's just me and I can relate more to certain images.
Appreciate your time, oh and how is your insect flight dynamics going. Talk about fascinating?

Anthony,

Love your connection to the planets and moons. This does indeed have a look of a place that while maybe similar to ours, is still of another world. Wonderful, almost mysterious mood. Interesting too that your "skewed" attempt at leveling looks pretty darn good. It didn't really even dawn on me that this wasn't "straight." Well done - beautifully crafted.

I like the mystery here. I would not have guessed the badlands. I have never seen them presented in conditions like this before. I like the uniqueness of the moment you were able to capture!

Beautiful story to go with this unique take, Anthony! I'm especially drawn to images that depict inhospitable environments and this is no exception.

A very different shot Anthony. It is quite interesting and I did not think Badlands when I first saw it, more like, where on earth were you? I like your personal approach to capturing your vision here, and you did it very well. Excellent idea and work.

Quite moody and otherworldly for sure. I do like your use of the diagonal lines with the camera tilt also. I find it to be an evocative image. Well done, Anthony!

Very unusual picture. This is not a "standard" landscape shot, it's more like a photo from some extra-terrestrial terrain one see in Si-Fi movies.
