Dahlia

I posted something similar last year but this time I changed the angle slightly so that I could shoot into the petals from the side.

ND300s, AFD200mm F/4 Micronikkor, F/16, 1/60 Sec, ISO200, Diffuser from the top-side, Gold Reflector from the front to fill the shadows and Tripod.

Thanks a lot for your comments on Gold-White Dahlia and let me know if this one works for you or not.

This Dahlia seems to the same variety Craig posted in Flora and in Photo Art Gallery.

Whatever you did it gives the images nice depth with the blending shadows and fantastic red color.

Bold comp and color Ram. Doesn't get any better for my tastes.

I remember the one from last year. This one is equally good. Wonderful clarity and lighting. :toast:

I remembered this dahlia from last year as well, but looked at your gallery anyway just to refresh my memory of those images of this extraordinary floral subject. This is certainly another gorgeous image. Excellent comp and superb control of the light. :toast:

This view down into the petals makes me think of a pipe organ. It's a really neat viewpoint in how it emphasizes the shapes.

You have a great dahlia eye, Ram! I love the crisp petal edges in the center combined with their color. My only nit is the clipped petal on top (you know I'm neurotic about these things!). I'd probably crop down just past the tip of the upper center petal so the cutoff is intentional. I find that to be the hardest part of composing dahlia images! Beautiful display!

Marvelous use of lines and I love the shading of the color here. The pov is outstanding. :toast:

A beautiful return, Ram. You have managed beautifully the stark light contrast, without flattening the image. In fact there is still a very stark play of shadows and lights that gives a three-dimensional illusion to the petals. Bravo!
Take care.

Works pretty well for me Ram. I like the tones and the comp works pretty well for me. I could have seen a slight shift upward or downward just for different petal clipping, but that is always hard for me with Dahlias.
