Underwoodisaurus milii

An afternoon of turning rocks on farmland in NSW, Australia yielded this adorable juvenile Underwoodisaurus milii. It lived up to its common name "Barking Gecko" by barking as it leapt "menacingly" towards me - a heroic intimidation attempt for a critter that can't have been more than 4 inches long from snout to tail.

The photo was taken on the rock that it was found under. I like the colours and the detail in the lichen. I welcome your comments and would be particularly interested in your opinion of the depth of field. I think I would prefer a little more of the gecko was in focus.

Cool picture, Crystal. He is an adorable looking little guy! I like your choice of DOF for this; the shallow focus makes it look like he is emerging from the mist to "greet" you. You've got good clarity on the eyes which are what counts. I also like his pose and your comp on this. Great capture!

Adorable indeed! He's gorgeous! Not so very intimidating, though! I love his beautiful spots and the detail in and around his eyes. The interesting mossy stuff is great too - and I love the narrow DOF. Well done!
