Black or Blue

I haven't done much black and white. When I saw these aspen trunks on top of a ridge against a medium blue sky, I first thought of blue & white - but a darker, almost navy, blue. When looking at the photos later, I thought of b&w, so opened Silver Efex and started working the photo.
There was a fire in this section of the north rim of the Grand Canyon several years ago, leaving some "stick" trunks with underbrush
growing back. I did crop out some of the brush at the bottom, but left a little for grounding. Plus a wild partial trunk on the left. Any comments/suggestions about the comp or b&w would be appreciated.

Stark and quite abstract. Had to read your narrative to figure it out. Quite interesting what you cam up with, and the tones look good.

Margaret,

I really like the stark contrast here between the trunks and the sky. I like the dark sky conversion here - reminiscent of some master b&w printers.... ;-) I like the crop and inclusion of the brush at the bottom as it does ground the image as you mention. It also reveals the light which looks mid-day, so I think that adds more value to the fact you converted this to b&w. Nice work.
