My wife and I are in the process of moving to CO, and during a visit to our new home last spring we discovered this momma fox. Our neighbors tell us she dens near our property every spring. She had kits with her but none of my shots of them together floated my boat, so to speak. A couple of days ago I posted a feline from NV, well here's a canine from CO. 300s, 70-200 f2.8 + 1.4 TE, VR on handheld. C&C's always welcome.

Excellent pose and I like the color scheme, the contrast seems a touch high to me here. :toast:

I like the pose here Russell and the vertical works for her upright body. Love the contrast of black legs and red body. The background is a bit cluttered, a longer lens from a distant location would have helped to soften it but not totally get rid of the strong diagonal of the fallen tree. Sounds like you may get more opportunities to photograph her, but with wildlife you never know.

That sounds like a great property for wildlife photography you are moving to Russ! I like the pose, detail and colors here. The eyes are a bit dark and the image as a whole would benefit from brightening these just a tad. Gary has some good points as well.

I really appreciate the feedback, Vincent here's my attempt to use local adjustments in Lightroom 3 to brighten those eyes. I really like the change. Yup, a 300mm lens is on my Christmas list (in September, no less) to gain some reach on what is rapidly becoming my favorite kind of photography - wildlife! it is a real privilege to be in the presence of these creatures.

Repost looks good Russ. Hearing from some of my coworkers you should have plenty of opportunities to see these guys in your area.

That's a pretty sweet image, Russ! I really like the eye contact you have here. I also really like how her colours match the background colours, it looks really nice! You have some great detail in her fur.

It's nice to have a pose like this...I wish I could find a fox this cooperative!

Lovely portrait here Russ...
I like the low angle and soft light. I would have said: "Perhaps dodge the face a bit to get more detail there? Particularly the eyes?" but your repost has addressed that!

Excellent work on brightening those eyes Russ, it did improve the image as a whole; eyes are (often, but not necessarily) key in wildlife photography.
