Garden Snail

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted September 11, 201171 views3 comments
I was trying to photograph a caterpillar with minimal success when I discovered this tiny garden snail on a rudbekia plant. I moved the snail to the top of the flower and it made its way down so it's a 1/2 set-up shot.

Nikon D300s 105mm f/2.8 VR HH
f/14
1/125s
ISO 640
Cropped to 70%, sharpened, adjustments on saturation of yellows to prevent them from being blown, sharpened subject and flower in CS5 on 27" iMac. Natural Lighting

Cool photo, Luke. I've been wanting to try a snail shot but they always seem to be inside their shell when I find them. I like the focus on his eyeball. IMO I would have cropped this down even more from the top and left side to give the snail more dominance.

Like the color combination here, sharp focus Luke.
Love the single eye of that snail staring back at me too

nicely taken although I think I'd be tempted to crop a bit off the top and it may have been nice to see slightly more of the flower? Just a thought.
