Captured this portrait last year in the Kruger National Park. Loved the mean stare here and the background of acacia tree branches.
Techs:
Nikon D300s with Nikkor 200-400mm f4 VR @ 400mm
f5.6 @ 1/1600 SS @ ISO-800

Superb detail in this Eagle, Morkel. You have captured a very nice pose with a great head turn. I think the weathered limb as a perch and the background work really well. Very nice image.

Wow, look at those talons! Perfect sharpness of the Eagle and his perch. A great head turn and catchlight in the eye. I also like the presence of the background which is OOF enough so that it doesn't compete with the bird. Very nice!

Fabulous capture Morkel! I had two opportunities to photograph the magnificent Tawny Eagle on my recent trip, but on both occasions unfortunately the sightings were rather distant and the background was that of an overcast and gloomy day. Wonderful to see this shot though, and very happy you nailed it :^)

Morkel, I also love the stare you are getting from this Eagle...that was the first thing that jumped out at me. Great techs (as usual from you), but the thing that really makes this work, is the BG you had to work with is very busy and you also had a branch coming out towards the viewer...that makes this a tougher capture IMO and your choice for DOF was perfect to accommodate both challenges. nice work!
