Avocet v Mallard Mom

Again culling my old images, I found this to be interesting. I have posted this behavior previously but this one has the ducklings in the image. The Avocets at San Joaquin have young ones and were pretty aggressive and chase everything. Why they do not like the ducklings I do not know but it makes for nice action.

I guess it's easier to chase the ducklings than to deal with mom.

Great action, Skip. I love the position of the Avocet and the poses of the ducklings. You might look at cropping a bit off the top and a fair amount off the bottom. I think it will give more of an in-your-face feel to the action.

Excellent behavioral shot! Avocet sure does look irritated! Do they actually attack, or only chase away?
