Nuclear Sunset

Scottish style..... on Traigh Mhor, Isle of Harris. It is difficult to accurately descibe the dynamics and power of this place or the emotion one feels while trying to photographic it...... The ever changing stormy skies, the pounding surf, the intermittent rains with gale force winds, the delightful storm light, the eerie glow that develops the moment the sun dips below the horizon..... described by Ian Cameron as "Transient Light". Taken last week during one of Ian's workshops.

Thanks for having a look and for your comments and critiques which are always appreciated.

Love it Eva! The colours, the reflected light on the sand and the variation in light intensity across the image work really well. Looking for a nit, I'd say the highlight area in the sky is almost too much, but it definitely works as posted. :toast:

Sounds like a great place Eva and I bet you enjoyed those conditions. Nice scene with a lot of drama in the sky.

I like the colors, depth and comp. I do agree that the highlight might be just a bit bright. Fine image though.

This is sweet, I have not been but I feel this image truly captures the spirit of this region.

A beautiful and spacious scene, Eva! The large version is particularly impressive with much more presence and lots more details to look at. Very, very nice!

That lighting sure is beautiful, Eva. I was beginning to think Ian had a monopoly on it. Must have been a wonderful workshop. Love this simple yet beautiful comp and peaceful mood.

Hi Eva

I guess you must be back or nearly back in the US by now. That was some sunset we had that evening almost like someone had picked up an over ripe tangerine and hurled it against a white wall. Great colour palette and a shapely hill to add gravitas.

Really nice work, Eva. I like the composition with the mountain in the back and the rocks off to the side and overall, I like the colors a lot. I would agree with some of the comments below about the brightest spot. I think that a little less brightness in the lightest tones would help balance the light nicely (mostly in the sky).

That's some beautiful light and clouds you captured Eva! I agree with the suggestions for toning down the bright spots some. Other than that, this is wonderful!

Wow, sounds like you had a lot to work with here, Eva. What's amazing here is all the wonderful tones, and I really like the inclusion of that bit of foreground sand.

Thanks everyone for your comments and critiques, I purposely left the bright areas in the sky bright since that is how it was seen by me. The light here is close to that I have experienced on Cape Breton in NS Canada but with the volume turned up quite a bit. Atlantic light is different than on the US western coast, desert light, or western mountain light, and unless you see it in person, it is difficult to describe why. The crazy weather plays a big part for sure.

Arrived back in MA/NH area Friday night after a long delay in Philadelphia due to bad weather on the east coast (go figure).

BTW - Ian was the one one who got us here to witness this unbelievable scene.

Ian must've ordered that light just for the workshop. Would be hard to get anything better than this. Real nice.
