Another from Malheur. (Thanks to Brian for the ID correction). I cropped this about as much as it would take, and wanted to leave the upper leaf there anyhow to show the reason for the bird's interest. Aphids for breakfast! Yum!

7D, 300mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held,f6.3, 1/2500, Av mode with +1/3 compensation, iso 640. Normal processing in CS4. Cropped to 5MP. Taken at 8:44 am on September 14th.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms you wish to leave.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice looking bird Dennis, pose is great and the catchlight is of course pleasing to see. I might have chosen to set the bird a little higher in the frame, had this been mine.

Dennis, I would certainly tighten the crop more and it looks like the WB could be adjusted to remove the orangish/pink cast to it. The bird itself could use another round of unsharp mask. The head angle is good and the catchlight.

Love the colors of the bird and the wonderful background. Looking up at the aphids is great.

neat shot, Dennis. I like the pose and the breakfast, as well as the setting. the bird does feel a little low in the frame to me, so maybe I'd add some back in on the bottom and side.

the species is Orange-crowned Warbler--one of the western/rocky mountain subspecies has a gray head. the eye ring is broken in front and back (on Nashville it's complete and very bold compared to this), and the yellow is rather drab (richer/brighter on Nash)

Dennis,
Another wonderful image. I like the crop which includes the aphids on the leaf and the two that are in mid air. Agree that it could use another round of unsharp mask but not a big deal.. Better to need another round than to have too much in my opinion. Really good exposure Dennis. Just another sweet shot. Brian...Thanks for the education.

Dennis, really like the detail, natural colors and the pose. I might consider cropping a bit from the top and turn this one into a 10x8 vertical.

Nice look at this warbler, Dennis. Great detail in the bird and I really like this composition as is. It gives the bird space to look into and the low position of the bird helps define it's size. Great image.

I'm fine with the crop as is, Dennis: it makes us wonder why the bird is so low in the frame and leads us to the aphids. Lovely bg. I agree that the bird could use a little more sharpening. Just a nit. Beautiful shot.
