Stones, Surf, and Light

Stones, surf, and light at Clashach Cove near Hopeman, Scotland taken on a 1-2-1 with Ian.

It is truly difficult to capture the character of a place such as this in a fleeting snap as this surely is. What you don't see / hear is the clashing of stones in the surf.... forming and smoothing them further.

Thanks for having a look.

Eva, I think this is a good subject for B/W. I like the detail, composition, and wetness of the stones that you have captured. It's quite easy to imagine the scene frothing with bubbles as the water comes ashore.

Difficult to capture all with a still camera. Nice attempt.

Regards,

Carol

The thumbnail just not do this justice. It really pops when you open it. Fantastic conversion with rich tones and palpable textures from the rocks and water. I also like the progression in your comp. :toast:

Nice B&W. I like how you've arranged the 2 different sizes of stones. :toast:

I love the light and comp here--great subject! Minor nit--i might have preferred a slightly faster exposure for the surf. Cool shot, Eva!

Sweet! Really like what B&W white does for this.

Great black & white conversion. I agree with morris that the thumb just not do this justice. I'm glad that I opened it and look at it closer. Well done. Very beautiful light.

Eva, your b&w has great impact on me. There is a surprising energy, I think due to the rather harsh contrast, which fits in perfectly with the subject in my opinion.

Eva,

I have struggled with making photos of rocks like this at the coast. You have done a commendable job with this photo. And I think B&W was a great choice.

A beautiful b&w, Eva. Love the strong contrast emphasizing the shape of the pebbles and rocks. The little bit of water in the top right adds so much to this wonderful comp. The large version is awesome. Lovely work!

Looks like you made the most of your time in Scotland. This is perfect for B&W - great tones, super sharp, and well composed.

Hi Eva, This almost got past me, but really glad I caught it now. Clicking on this was a real treat to me, and the large version is even more so. Awesome in B/W. I love it!
