Coyote After Dinner

This image was captured along the Blacktail Plateau Drive in Yellowstone. This coyote had just finished off a chipmunk. I got a shot of that & have posted below to complete the story. I had moved for a better angle of him eating, and once he finished, he decided to trot out of the woods directly towards me. I fired off a few quick shots & jumped back in the car! We were able to watch him hunt for another five minutes or so with some great shots, but he came up empty handed.

Here's the photo of him eating dinner - an unfortunate chipmunk.

Beautiful shot, I love the licking of his lips! Fantastic capture! I wish the OOF blob was a little farther to the right and didn't overlap on the coyote, but I understand the circumstances probably didn't allow for that. You must have been quite close for this to be at 190mm!

Love the tongue curl. I wonder if you could lighten the eyes any. Coyote eyes have so much personality. The fall vegetation adds a nice tone to the image. It must have been interesting to watch.

Wick, the face is sharp and even though the eyes are slightly dark that bright tongue wrapping over the nose makes the shot for me. I'm pretty much ok with the OOF stuff in front of the legs - you did well to get the coyote in the clear as much as you did.

Great looking animal. The color, comp. and the habitat are very good. Fine image. I had a similar experience recently in Yellowstone, only it was very early in the morning and I couldn't convince the Coyote to stand still so I could take a 5 or 6 second exposure.

Looks like Yellowstone was good to you. This is a terrific view with the tongue out. Would have enjoyed overlapping, but I flew in on the 24th. I can only hope to get something this good during my visit.
