Across the Red Planet

... went through my archives and stumbled across this photo from Mars... no, Jordan that is...

I'd be interested to get your feedback on the comp. Does it transport the idea of traversing this space from the air, e.g. from a bird's point of view? Or do you find it rather static?

Thanks for looking and any thoughts you may have...

I don't find it static, but I do find the harsh shadows distracting. Other than that, I like it very much.

I don't find it static either Karsten. And unlike Phil, I like the contrasty light and shadows of the foreground and the way they play against the darker, evenly lighted background. It gives the image a sense of depth and drama, IMO.

It also definitely gives one a sense of flying over the landscape, not unlike a Mars lander preparing to touch down on the red planet. Very otherworldly image, well seen and executed!

Static, not by any means. This is beautiful light streaking across the landscape. With this type of focused light you have excellent shadows that provide texture and depth. An exceptional photograph Karsten.

Amazing landscape and the aerial view works great. I also like the contrast between the shadows and sunlit areas. Very nice.

To me this image captures alot of motion. The stark land, the dark shadows and bright highlights does give an illusion of flying over the land. Well done!!! Thanks for sharing.

Spectacular scene Karsten! Love the light and shadow play! Definitely taken on Mars I would say! What star ship did ya take? Beautiful work regardless.

I really like the misleading scale in this photo and the hard lines of the shadows near the center of the image.

I definitely get the sense of an aerial view. The light/shadow play is gorgeous and the distant mountains add to the feeling of flight over distance... Very nice! :toast:

I agree!! I feel like one of the "Mars Exploration Rovers" sitting on a ledge overlooking the martian landscape during an amazing moment of light !! WOW :jump:

Karsten,

Outstanding! This indeed does give the distinct impression of being an aerial capture - "traversing this space..." well said. Hard light, but seemingly so very appropriate for the landscape.

Really no suggestions at all. Well done! This is a somewhat unique landscape and you should be happy to have captured this.

Rather static? Rather stunning, I'd say. This sure does look great, love the colors. And I do think that you do succeed in conveying the bird's view perspective.
