Marsh Wren

Another from Malheur, somewhat later in the morning than the peek-a-boo shot I posted a while back. Also taken with a different camera/lens combination. I'd prefer a green reed behind the beak, but I was shooting through a window in the reeds and had no options on where to move (nor much time).

7D, 300mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held, f6.3, 1/640, iso 640, Av mode with +1/3 compensation. Normal processing in CS4. Cropped to 9.1MP. Taken at 8:46 am on September 14th.

As always, your comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice detail/sharpness. A tough species - I'd be happy to have taken this.

Def a good bird in habitat shot Dennis. I have always had a tough time even seeing these birds here in FL, so I applaud your effort here. Nice work.

For the situation you describe Dennis, I think this is a brilliant shot! Love the rich colours and the detail you've managed to bring up so well!

Tough lighting conditions but you make it work very well Dennis.
I like the habitat, sharp details.
Quick little suckers, nice job :toast:

Sharpness looks very good on the wren Dennis. I like the pose too, as a variation on the classic singing one. I also enjoy seeing this bird buried deep in the reeds but still the wren is unobstructed and with good light.

This is really wonderful Dennis. I really love the setting, being able to see the water and duckweed down at the bottom. It's a lot easier getting a shot of these guys up higher in the cattails than it is to get a shot like this. :toast:

Nice open shot of this bird in it's natural habitat.

Dennis, great capture of an elusive species. Great light on the head. Love the precarious pose balancing on the reed. Nice job on the exposure. You could have easily blown the highlights on the reed underneath the perch. Well captured in tough conditions with minimal amount of time. :toast:

Given how difficult this species is to find even this far in the open, I think this is very well done, Dennis. I'd sure be happy with it.
