Birds have been very slow around here for some time now but I did find this juvenile this morning out on Antelope Island.

7D, 1/2500, f/6.3, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 9/28/11, small exposure adjustment in ACR, cropped to 88% of original image, sharpened bird and perch, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not set up or baited

Larger version provided

Comments/critique appreciated

88% on this small sparrow, now that is close. The small crop shows in the larger version Ron. Super detail. For me the one stick behind the bird is not optimal, but just a small nit to me. I like the curving main and secondary branches coming in from the left corner and the BG gives support to the habitat shown in the FG. Nice.

Nice details, light, and color Ron.
Like the natural setting & the birds leg up pose on this great perch.
Well done :toast:

Very nice - one of my favorite subjects. I like the color harmony and understated nature of this setting and composition. Excellent detail.

I had my first-of-season white-crown on Saturday and am looking forward to good numbers of them through spring.

The perch and twigs offer an intimate habitat image Ron. Nice detail and very pleasing background.

Nice one, but I'd prefer more room all around.

Really gorgeous detail on the larger version, right down to the detail in th eye. The stick(s) don't bother me at all. :toast:

Love the fine detail in the feathers Ron, which of course shows even better in the larger version!

I find any sparrow a hard bird to photograph, they are around everywhere but seldom stay still. Wonderful detail on the larger version, well done.

Wow Ron,
You really got close to this one. Great details in a natural environment. One small distraction....The small stick going straight up just behind the sparrow. Other than that great image. Won't be long before you've got some Great shooting to be had.

Excellent detail, Ron. I like the color palette, too. I saw hundreds of these kids in central Idaho last week, but didn't get any in the open like this.
