Connery Pond

Connery Pond is located in the Lake Placid area in the Adirondacks. The top of Whiteface Mountain can be seen above the cloud bank. This image was created from three photos exposed 1 2/3 stops apart using the NIK software's HDR program. I selected the default in HDR and used Viveza2 to fine tune the image.
I used my Canon 7D with a 17-40MM lens, a Really Right Stuff ball head and a Gitzo tripod.

This is my first post on NPN and I welcome you honest comments.

That's really pretty, David. The layers are nicely lit and separated created a wonderful depth to the scene.

Welcome to NPN David. I like the image and would have never guessed it to be HDR. A couple of minor nits: I wish there was more separation between the reeds and the reflection and the reflection is slightly brighter than the sky. Overall, I like the color and detail in the trees and the clouds are lovely too. Was this image recently captured? If so, it looks like your fall is coming in quite nicely....

That's a very beautiful scene. The processing looks good.

Welcome David! A beautiful scene from the Adirondacks, one of my favorite places.

Looks like web compression is hurting this a little, would love to see this larger!

Welcome to NPN, David! This is a great first post--outstanding comp with some nice light, color, and mix of scenery. I disagree with Michael about the HDR--it looks pretty good here, but still has the telltale earmark of HDR software--which tends to suck the life out of contrast. I think this would be much stronger with a little more contrast, especially in the top sky. :wavey:

Welcome to NPN, David! Your plain composition works very well for me. I appreciate the way you let me experience this serene atmosphere.

Welcome to NPN David, and sweet first post. Excellent processing, would not have guessed HDR by looking at it, which is a huge compliment. The scene itself is quite pretty, with subtle, but rich coloration, and the composition is nice too.

David,

Welcome to NPN and the Landscape Gallery! Great to have you here and you've posted a beauty for you introductory post.

This a lovely and well captured scene. I like the soft color throughout and of course the light and color with the fog bank on the mountain really tops this off beautifully. I would agree with Stan on the contrast. While the processing looks quite good, I would consider tweaking the contrast a bit. The lightness in the water/reflection I also noticed like Michael, but it's not a deal killer for me, but an observation.

Thanks for posting and we look forward to your images and contributions to the galleries and forums.
