Hi all!
I'm Jaymes, and I'm new to NPN. I decided on a simple flower shot for my first post...
I'm not sure if I like the oof flower in the bg...does it balance out the image, or is it a deal breaker?
Nikon D70, 60mm micro, 1/160, f/4.2, ISO 250...
All C and C appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

10 commentsI don't think the second flower detracts at all, it's well OOF & blends into your BG well.
What kind of flower is this BTW?
Nice shot, have a good weekend!
Keep 'em coming!

I like the colors in this very much. I think they're unusual for a flora image. I'm not sure that the composition works for me though. Assuming that the in focus bloom is the subject, I'd have probably tried to get it on one of the four power points in the frame and maybe orient the supporting bloom on to a diagonal. Or maybe crop in tighter from the viewer's left. This comp, seems horizontal to me, which is fine but there's nothing on the left side of the frame to balance the right. All subjective of course. (smile)
Again, welcome to the gallery. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your images.

beautiful splash of color. I'd have preferred a bit more of dof on the main subject, overall a very nice first post.
Love this first photo from you. Like the limited depth of field for the mums (?) in a sea of orange-reds. Show us more of your work.
Thanks so much for the advice and the comments, everyone! I appreciate it!

First posting of your images that I've seen. Welcome to NPN and Flora, even tho' you registered a while back.
I don't mind the balance at all. The small OOF bud in the center is a bit distracting. Interesting post.

Carol
Yeah, I did register, but never posted anything, due to busyness and such...

Welcome to Flora.
Bold colors for your first post in this gallery. The wash of orange/red is what draws my eyes on the thumbnail. The main flower looks fine with this shallow DOF and nicely supported by the bud. Look forward to seeing more of your posts.
