Young Elephant enjoys its bathtime at Ngweshla waterhole, Hwange NP, Zimbabwe 5th September 2011.

Hwange is in my humble opinion the greatest place for Elephant in Africa.

EOS 1D MkIV

500mm F4 IS hand held from picnic chair

Well that is something I have never heard before, 'hand held from picnic chair'. Wonderful timing to get the muddy water and he looks like he is having a good mud bath. Excellent shot in the bright light, way to go.

I'd selectively decrease the brightness of the background on this image and maybe give the whole thing a contrast boost - or warm it up some - but overal this is a nice action image with cool behavior seen.

Love the behavior Ken. Personally, I think the flying dark, muddy water is very effective against the brighter bakground.

Jim,

We had the best guide in Africa to look after us, we also got tea and cake at 6.00, our campsite was only 400 mtres from where we were

Luke and Ron thanks for your comments

Great photo Ken! I do love the comment "handheld from a picnic chair" as well. Couldn't help but wonder how this would look with a vertical crop. Nicely done.
