Moraine Park Bull Elk

Shot earlier this week in RMNP. The angle of light most of the time that afternoon was unfavorable on this bull, but I was able to get a few frames in better conditions. The light was a bit contrasty, so I used a bit of shadow/highlight to bring out some shadow detail in the bull. Full frame, larger image included.

Wonderful composition and good timing to get the elk calling, I like how the light just comes across the head, good detail in the larger image, way to go.

Great pose. Like the surrounding grass and the catch light in the eye.

Just so beautiful Bill. Non distracting background and pin sharp. Great shot :toast:

Beautiful pose! I would consider reducing the sharpening on the grass and I would try to minimize the size of the catchlights in the eye, to keep it from looking like a Stephen King effect. Your comp looks just right for this focal length.

Very nice look at those antlers and the bugling behavior Bill. Good job getting this guy full frame and I like your comp with the direction the head is pointing, though it might be ever so slightly tight on the virtual feet.
