Light Em Up

Perfect example of why aspens need fire to regenerate. Twenty some years ago a very hot fire swept through this area destroying everything in its path. Today the hillsides are covered with these little aspens. The weather has been just right to light them up with color.

I would like to know your thoughts on the composition. It seems a bit heavy to me on the left. I couldn't position myself to separate those trees and come up with a better comp. What do you think?

great autumn colours dean. i would play with cropping off the top section.

I like the top personally. And the comp looks fine to me--the trees lined up on left may not be optimal--but it's close enough. Myonly nit is the mid-bg looks a little soft. Pretty shot tho. :wavey:

Dean, your composition with the diverse and repeated verticals and diagonals is very appealing for me. Colos appear delightful, and despite the inevitable compression effect I have an idea of all the beautiful details. Your image must be great as large print.

The evergreens all on the left do tend to weight that side, but the only other option might have been to focus on the near aspen and distant burn area. Not sure if this would even been possible. I'd say you made the best out of the situation.

Beautiful color. I think the fact that the lh evergreens repeat well into the middle ground helps keep them from being overpowering. I like that you included the burned out ridge in the bg

I agree about a crop from the top, but on the other hand, the top adds interest as is. Both would work, IMO.

Love those bright cheddar colored leaves Dean!

Love the mix of autumn colors on the hillside and the placement of the evergreens works fine in my book. The fallen trees in the background add a lot to the story of the image as well as add a nice visual contrast. I wouldn't change a thing.

Dean, great colors in this aspen regrowth area. I cannot see anyway to crop to improve the comp.

This is working very well for me, Dean. The composition is interesting without being predictive, and that is something that I like very much in a photograph. The trees seem to be doing very well as you have mentioned.
