Seconds After Sunset

Taken just after sunset in the Wahiba Sands, Oman. I'm very curious as to what you think about this. I haven't taken many images in the desert without the sun being up, which of course greatly enhances the visibility of sand patterns and shapes. This one here is much smoother in comparison, and the look is rather different.

Nikon D300, 17-55/2.8 DX.

Nice image and I think I know why you ask. We have problems controling bright light and dark shadows but the contrast they provide give interesting depth. Vibrancy is deminished without bright light.

As you note, this is a rather original take on sand dunes, but I think it is a very successful image because of that. In my opinion, the lack of direct light makes this a slightly more mysterious, ethereal scene -- something I like. Great capture.

this is a beautiful pastel image and the texture of the sand in the fg and patterns of the dunes add visual impact. Excellent image for my tastes.

I like the amount of dunes you got in this shot Basil, nice shapes and depth.

I like the smoothness and low contrast of the image. It manages to be both aesthetically pleasing and effective at conveying a stark and somewhat desolate landscape. A fine shot.
