Leaf - REPOST

This was taken this morning at a nearby stream. I was impressed with how the birch leaf held on with significant waterflow.

Beautiful image. My first impression was that the leaf is symbolic of a story about holding on through life's struggles, even when there is a drop in sight. Excellent shot with great detail in the leaf.

This is nice. You caught the leaf and the flow beautifully. It's just a tad on the dark side but that certainly doesn't detract much, IMO. Excellent image

I noticed this was dark after posting it. I really should calibrate my monitor. Don't know if this is any better.

Maybe you could call it "Tenacity." I like the repost a touch better. I also like your pov in this as well as the flow from the leaf and over the falls.

I prefer the repost too Charlie, the light reflecting off the water looks great, reminds me of glass.

Charlie,

I think this is outstanding. I really like the near-tension that exists between the settled leaf and the cascade (ie. the leaf holding on.) The color is natural and there's just enough clarity and crispness to the water to make this stand out. On a personal taste level one could play with the saturation and contrast, but I'm really enjoying this as captured and presented.

As a little side note, I'm a big proponent of balanced compositions, but there are no rules or laws that say everything has to be "balanced." There are things like impact, tension, dynamics, etc. etc. that can make for strong images and this one has all that.

Lon

edit: I think I like the original for it's slightly higher contrast, but the repost works too.

The symbolic tenacity was what grabbed my attention in the first sighting of this. Thanks all for comments.

Lon, when I was thinking about comp I cropped this the more common 1/3, 2/3 way and felt it didn't seem right. I tried a few other crops and this is what I liked best. The water flow pleased me so much I wanted max of that with, of course, the main attraction that tough leaf. Thanks for all your comments.

This is a powerful shot, Charlie--one of my favs of yours! I think the balance is just right. I like the original contrast best. :toast:

Charlie, your image has great impact on me. The texture of the leaf is excellently shown, and the water looks amazingly tangible to me, like a sculpture. Great artistic work in my opinion. I think I prefer the first version, the rather high contrast is more appealing to me. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is a great image! Neat subject, and nice composition. I might like to see some experimentation with the shadow detail in the upper left, and some contrast adjustments here and there. It's purely personal preferance, but maybe it could pop a little more.

In answer to Chris's comment about contrast adjustment to upper left corner, I have touched this up a bit. I should add that this kind of (what I considered subtle) adjustment I, in the past never considered. I know that there are so many photographers which give far more care to their posts than I, so I decided to give it a try. It may be my eyesight but I don't notice much difference. Is there any difference in others view? Please comment if interested.
