The Little Colorado

The Little Colorado River flows over Grand Falls near Leupp, AZ during spring snowmelt, or after heavy summer monsoon rains. The Falls are sometimes called Chocolate Falls due to the extremely muddy water. In this spring image, the light of sunset gave chocolate water a nice red tone. (a larger image is provided)

shutter speed was 1 sec, f/13, iso 200

A solid image. I feel there is a little too much OOF foreground. A crop just above the top of the first and a little off the RHS might strengthen this. Worth looking at, anyway.

Great light! I don't really mind the OOF foreground, at least not at this scale.

Gorgeous light! I'm thinking a 4x5 crop from the top might tighten up the comp and keep the focus on the spectacular light on the water. Perfect shutter speed to blur the water just the right amount while still keeping some detail but I think you can reduce some of the noise on the water without losing any of the detail. Nice capture.

The sunset color in the falls is great. I also like your choice of a vertical format...leads to lots of eye movement. I find the contrast between the silky water in the lower 2/3 and the sharp ledge at the top somewhat disconcerting. It make the main subject seem soft. I'd crop the top section, but both parts are really nice.

Thank you for the crop suggestions and your reasoning behind them. I will address the noise also.

Great light and a very nice capture of the falls, Doug! I don't mind the softer foreground because both the soft to sharp transition and the curve of the falls carry the eyes into the scene to the best part which is the ledge and smaller falls in the background. Well done!

Wonderful color and a great point of view...I'd agree that the contrast between the OOF f/g and the sharpness of the ledge is a little disconcerting.
