Lower Falls by Moonlight

Please view larger version for more detail. This is the Lower Falls at Graveyard Fields near Mt. Pisgah, NC. It's 10 pm with a 7/8th full moon shining through the trees illuminating the falls. I enhanced just a bit with light painting from my headlamp on the falls and the water in the foreground pool for a few seconds. The area was past peak on it's color, but the rust of the remaining leaves gave an interesting tone.

The thumbnail does not do this justice Wick and I am glad I opened it. Beautiful display of autumn color at night and pin point stars. The larger version really needs to be viewed to enjoy the falls.

Beautiful. The stars really set the tone here and the falls simply glow.

Love how the blue above plays off the green below. The lighting on the falls is magical.

Great light and great colors. What really cought my eye was the lack of movement in the trees. A 30 sec. exposure and no blur is just amazing. well done.

This is really nice, Wick. The lighting looks perfect and completely natural. Stars sure make a clear sky look better than just a clear blue sky.

The processing looks awesome Wick and I really like the luminance of the moonlight. Your composition is rather unconventional and while it works, it feels a little tight on the right side. I would have liked to see more of the upper fall too, not sure if that was possible though...

Michael,
I would have loved to have shown more of the top and right of the falls, but I was standing on a large rock in the middle of the stream - the only spot to get a good shot looking up the falls and a decent view of the sky. This whole area is down in a hole with lots of other rocks & trees blocking the view. With the stars, I had to use 16mm as the focal length. I deliberately cropped out the right side as there was a large rock that intrudes just out of the frame.
Thanks for the suggestions!
