I Shot a Moose !

Finally got a decent shot of a bull moose. Not as clean as the cow/calf image i posted earlier, but not complaining. This is about as close as he got, moments later he turned his back and walked away. Only managed a couple of shots and couldn't avoid the spruce on the right in either case.

Messed up the exposure a little and had to brighten up the shadows selectively in processing.

Beautiful animal. Nice framing with the trees and the fall color really adds to the image. Fine image.

Beautiful animal in a gorgeous setting. I love this shot. My only comment would be it seems just a little tight on the virtual feet. :toast:

Nice shot Anand - too bad about the oof spruce on the right, and I agree about the lack of virtual leg space, but still a nice shot.

By the sounds of it, certainly not an easy subject to photograph up close, so I'll simply say congratulations on a fine image Anand :^)

Hi Anand,

Some very nice colour here - love the bushes and how they complement the evergreens so well. I'm a bit torn on the tree on the right side of the frame - in one way it adds to the image (as a framing element and in terms of how the moose is emerging from the woods) and, at the same time, because it's out of focus and overlapping the subject, it distracts a little (especially on the larger version). But nice to view nonetheless!

Cheers...thanks for sharing this one...

Anand, I like this moose photo alot! In spite of the OOF tree, the IMHO the framing of the moose is just fine. The fall foliage around him sets off the moose very well. I like that you have detail in the right antler, sometimes the sun just makes it a big reflector. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks all ! There is a little more room at the bottom, but the out of focus spruce gets a little worse there and i didnt like the placement of the moose vertically without the crop.

@ashley, moose are common through most of alaska, canada and would imagine through scandinavia and russia. Thanks to their size and antlers, they aren't hard to find either. Its just that they haven't been very cooperative in the past. You do need to respect their space, one swing of those feet and its all over

I love this one Anand! Some folks will probably not like some of the "clutter" in the foreground but I like the way it shows this big bull in his natural environment. The fall reds in the background are great and the framing is spot on. About the only thing I would wish for would be the bull to be a tad more to the left so there is no branch in front of that very impressive set of head gear. Well done!

Beautiful setting here and colorful indeed ... wondering if toning down the bright part of its antler would have helped a bit ... overall a great shot ...
