I am delighted to see one of these birds, getting a reasonable image is a bonus.

This was taken on the shores of Lake Kariba, Matusadona National Park, Zimbabwe, 20th September 2011.

EOS 1D MkIV

500mm F$ IS hand-held from drifting boat

Very reasonable. No question, this is an excellent pose with good detail. Nice head turn and eye contact as well.

Beautiful bird, beautiful capture. Love the colors and detail. I had to laugh at your Freudian slip: a 500 F$ is probably just as accurate as saying a 500 F4.

Allen,
I do the $ thing much too much
Hans,
By reasonable I mean not as good as I had hoped for, but then again what is.

Amazing display of colors from this crane. I like that the neck and head turn just moved those areas into the light to really show them well, excellent shot.
