It's been a while since I've last posted. A busy summer driving from Houston Texas to Alaska and beyond on a three-month trip in our Roadtrek 190. This image is my favorite, and I've received lots of comments from my friends. I see a similar one that was just posted. I wonder if it's the same bear, since mine was also taken at The Lake Clark National Park.

Amazing capture!!! The flying hair and water action really make this shot. The 100-400 is not long enough to be safe though. Take care and kudos on this great image. :toast:

TERRIFIC SHOT :toast: :toast:

Takes courage and composure to get a clean shot when a bear runs at you :toast:

Great action shot. Great sharpness and detail. The look in the eye really makes the image. He must have been fairly close to get him this large in the frame at 400mm or did you crop the image?

That is a classy shot, but I hope you were able to take it from somewhere safe.

Hi Dottie,

This is quite striking - good job on capturing the action and definitely a very good job on the exposure (either in-camera, during process, or both). Very nice detail on the bear's head - the focus on this one couldn't be any better! I think the only thing "hampering" this shot (not that it's very hampered!!) is the lack of colour in the background water and sky. It would be possible (and quite easy) to add just a touch of colour back there using a cooling filter (tho' whether or not you'd want or choose to do so is a different type of issue!).

To me the coat on this bear looks quite different than on the similar shot posted by David Hemmings - this bear looks much shaggier - and the facial structure looks quite different (wider spacing between the eyes on "your" bear, etc.). So I'd guess this is a different bear...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this compelling shot...

Brad

Dottie, what I like most about this excellent capture is the texture of his fur, especially the ears. The timing is also perfect with both front paws lifted from the churning water.

I really like the flying fur in this one. Makes it look more like a playful shaggy dog than an intimidating giant you see in other similar shots.

How you and David managed to capture a shot of a charging Bear and managed to live to tell the tale is amazing enough, but for you both to have come out of it with such awesome images simply blows my mind! Very well done Dottie :^)

Impeccable timing here Dottie! Love the hairs as mentioned as well as the feet in the air. I think recropping so the bear is smack-dang in the centre would be a good option here... :toast:

Repost - I edited the 'Running Bear' by changing the BG color, and centering the bear. I like it much better. Thanks to those that took the time to make these suggestions:wink:

Hi Dottie, I think I might know this bear! An excellent pose you captured here with the flying wet hair. This looks like one of the thinner females that was around when I was there. Likely was the same area where we shot, what a great place!

Incredible photo Dottie, splashing water, flowing hair and intense facial concentration, WOW!!!.

I agree that the re-post might be a tad too blue and I'm leaning toward the comp on your first version, Personally, I like the more intimate feel of the first one.

Really nice shot Dottie - Love the eye contact and flying fur. I like the color of the repost, but the crop of the original. Thanks for sharing!

Really great image, Dottie. The bears seems frighteningly close to you, but almost seems to be a pet coming home to it's master. Excellent view of the face, eyes and that huge front paw. Love the splash and the flying hair.
