This very alert White-throated Sparrow didn't stay long after this photo was taken recently at the Riverwood Conservancy in Mississauga.

I like how well the colors of the bird complement those of the tree. Also, there is some nice detail here (please see the large version).

All comments most welcome.

lovely light and the bird is nice and sharp. i wish there was something more on the right side of the image though - the negative space doesn't do much for me,

Steve,
I like the alert expression of this bird. Great detail, beautiful mossy perch and colors. :toast: :wavey:

Some dramatic light; good exposure and nice detail. I"d crop some from thre left for better balance even if it created a square composition.

While the crop is unconventional, I think it works well here Steve because it's such a lovely perch with great light on it. Add in the fact that there appears to be nothing on the right and I think you made the right decision with the crop. The lighting is dramatic as well. :toast:

Thank you for your comments everyone. Looks like there are two schools of thought on the comp here. I think that the comp as posted does have the bird sharing the spotlight with the perch. I do really like that perch and the comp reflects that! Here is a try at removing some of it as Richard suggested and Luke implied. It was necessary to crop a little from the rhs too to avoid the bird being too centered. So, there is still some "negative space".
