Myrtle Warbler

To continue my Warbler theme, here is a Yellow-rumped (Myrtle race) Warbler. These birds were numbering in the thousands yesterday at Jones Beach and along other parts of Long Island's South shore. The bird is attractive - but not is much more striking in the Spring (as are virtually all Warblers). I've photographed this species many times before but yesterday I did my best work with these little guys.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/6.7
1/640s
ISO 400

Cropped to 75% for compositional purposes, sharpened using smart sharpen in CS5 on 27" iMac

Always a cheerful bird in the colder months. This one looks fluffed up enjoying some early sun. Nice detail.

It must be mostly air under those feathers or this bird would have trouble getting off the ground, Luke! I like the head turn and detail here. The bg is complex but nicely blurred. Even the OOF stuff in the foreground on the rhs is not really a distraction. You might think about how to give the image a little more "pop". For this image in particular, to me the large version has noticeably more impact than the small version. Nice work.

Fine detail in the LP Luke, great eye contact as well.
Like this side view with the little guy all puffed up, he's a real cute feather-ball
I think the filtered light looks great across its shoulders, well done :toast:

This is a beauty Luke. I like that the bird is at eye level.
