Lamar Lights

Sony A700
Tokina 828 ATX Pro @ 135mm, CPL
ISO 200, 1/100 @ f8

We rolled through the Lamar Valley early one morning while in Yellowstone and I was attracted to the somewhat subdued but grand scenes. The cottonwoods were glorious and the sweep of the BG hills was fun to watch as the clouds played with the light. All comments welcome.>=))>

That triple tree stand is spectacular and with so nice a flowing scene into the distance this is a winner, Bill. Subtle beauty is the key here.

The layered light works great to enhance the depth in this. Great color in the sunlit cottonwood in the foreground, and the comp works so well with the interplay between the lighted areas. :toast:

This reminds me of an often-repeated saying of TV art teacher, Bill Alexander: "Without dark, there is no light." The combination of dark conifers and cloud shadows really makes the sunny cottonwoods pop. It's fun (although sometimes frustrating) to wait for the shadows to fall just right. You captured the perfect moment perfectly.

Bill, I enjoy your composition with the bright tree as wonderful focal point and the different layers leading from near to distance. There is a kind of rhythm for me in the background that adds a lot in my opinion.

Wow, that is really pretty, Bill! Grand and intimate at the same time. Could see a bit of light balancing here, maybe burning down the bright area in back and adding a bit of light to the tree.
