Fall Leaves IV

Photo was taken using the same setup as prior post. Zeiss 35mm w/polarizer, mirror up, cable, tripod and diffused window light.

Fall leaves were placed with some purposeful intent. No rocks!! Bruce K...I have some oak acorns...maybe next time!! I deployed characteristics like the successful comp with acorns and chestnut from three years ago. However, the original had a special still-life mood with darker movements of light and larger size of items. This frame is brighter throughout and elements are smaller...w/more emphasis on the leaves... significant differences. Ken S

Great composition! I love the colors and textures like Bill mentioned. The sheen off of the nut is wonderful.

Somehow, I am yearning for a little more canvas on the right side. to my, inexperienced, eyes, the photo seems to be leaning to the right, ,,,as the balance of space is cut off from that side. Maybe a little more on the bottom too?..... Does anybody else see that?

Lucy, I concur w/the tight right and lower borders. Your observation is tracking with one of the more difficult obstacles with these comps. Striking a balance between large items with fine colorful details...vs... packing plenty of items within the frame... not chaotic but flow and ease. It is vexing...you know when you finally have got it...but, getting it is another story. In this case...I wanted balance from the upper rt leaf with the lower left...the same for the two chestnuts....and a nice lower elevation path...like a flowing z-curve between the two chestnuts. If I could change and redo...not possible with these items as they have dried out too much. ...but if...I would move the lower chestnut up an inch...then take another shot to capture more on the right side...and blend the two shots using photomerge. For my tastes, this one is perfect Ken. Superb composition both spatially and with respect to the color. Rich, warm color, subtle light, interesting textures and a very appealing mood. Exceptional image. Regardless of the Fall theme, I'd leave this one on my wall year round.
