Canon EOS 7D, EF 500mm f/4L IS USM, Aperture Priority @ f/8 (1/40 sec), -2/3 EV, ISO 400, Tripod, JPEG from RAW, About 80% of Full Frame

Following on from my last post, this here's the male Madagascar Scops Owl, found him in the same spiny tree forest (Southeastern Madagascar) as the female, nestled into an adjacent tree, which gave me the impression they prefer separate beds, thorny as they are who can blame them ;^)

Once again, lighting and trying to peer through the branches were the main challenges, and although I managed to catch with male with less obstructions, I did clip off a fair portion of his tail, as you can see. I was tempted to stick around longer trying to get myself and the tripod in yet another position for an even better shot, but the expression on his face suggested that I'd already irritated him enough, so I backed off thinking I'd be happy enough with this, which I am!

That said, critique and comments always welcome.

I guess you did the right thing, he looks kind of angry already  . Great shot, like it even better than the previous one, which was already darn good... Well done ! Cheers, Hans

Ashely, very nice. I like the way the plumage of the owl gives it such a serious look. Nice and sharp with great detail, but for some reason I like your previous post of the female better. Thanks for sharing.

Another great capture, Ashley! When this caught my eye in the gallery, I knew it had to be yours! Great detail, and, yes, he looks angry! :toast:

Great detail in this Ashley, and I think you did the right thing in backing off and leaving him alone.

Nice image! I think that I like this image more than the one of the female. That's some expression on his face  ! You would think that these perches would not be the most comfortable for them.

Such a cool looking owl, he seems to fit in well with his preferred roosting spot. I like this one better too.

A Beauty Ashley!!!

Love the stare Ashley, and the bit of talon sticking out.

Great image. Love the squinty eye get out of here. Excellent detail in the feathers. You've produced some amazing stuff.

A great looking owl Ashley. What wonderful camo plumage. Nice detail. Maybe a bit tight for my taste, but that is just me.
