Canon EOS 7D, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM MK II, Aperture Priority @ f/5.6 (1/1250 sec), -1/3 EV, ISO 640, Handheld, JPEG from RAW, Cropped Vertical from Horizontal

Thought I'd give you a little break from my beloved Madagascan Lemurs and get you back to South Africa for a while.

This delightful little fella is an orphaned four month old male Lion cub at The Big Cat Reserve (Limpopo, South Africa) frolicking around on an early morning walkabout.

I'd had a previous morning shoot with him but a cold front had set in complete with overcast skies and even a little rain, which produced less than wonderful results. Fortunately I had another opportunity a few days later and the early morning sunlight was all I could have hoped for. To acquire the low angle I lay down on my side a the bottom of a small rise he was heading toward and prayed he'd be curious enough to see where I was at and head in my direction.

Critique and comments always welcome.

This is very engaging Ashley. What I really appreciate is the super low angle here. I sometimes wish to get down on the ground at eye level with lions, but in wild conditions that is not (always) possible. IMO this would have looked even better without the tree in the BG and a little bit less clutter in front of him.

Beautiful light and perspective. The foreground clutter intersecting the paws is a bit distracting, but unavoidable, I am sure.

Ashley, you caught a great look on the cubs face. I also like the warm tone of this image as well as the sharpness of the cubs face. TFS
