Shining Tree

After seeing Eva's magnificent autumnal versions of the Quiraing it is with some trepidation that I show you the same tree in a very different and more sombre mood shot just two weeks later. The lighting is all but contre-jour and quite difficult to handle but even though the tree has shaken off its autumn gown I hope that you still appreciate it's wet shimmering silver beauty against the folded velvet billiard table cloth of rumpled grass on the slopes beyond.

Please view LARGE it's got more oomph.

Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, 0.75ND hard grad, f/22 at 1/2 second. Velvia 50.

Hi Ian - The little silvery tree really stands out in the more somber light and darker background then we had two week earlier. Besides the dynamic light and rays on the lochs and far mountain, those Velvia greens are stunning (and I am amazed what I see on my transparencies from here!). I can look at this for hours especially the larger view. What an amazingly beautiful place of ever changing light! Did you have any sideways rain and horrific wind too?

Hi Eva

No not this time conditions were remarkably benign. Some rain but I seemed to be on the edge rather than in the middle of it some very decent rainbows though.

Ian, this photo is all about light and composition and both are done really well. The greens are a welcome bonus.

Awesome light, Ian. Yes, the larger photo is great. Only suggestion I would make before you print might be to remove the small cropped lake on the far left. The eye goes through and keeps on heading right out of the frame. Tiny nit but this is such a great image otherwise.

Regards,

Carol

I just have to add another comment....... just because..... This definitely has more mood, fantastic light, and is more stunning than any of my film or digital images of this place, or anything we all saw that day in September, IMHO. As I said in my first post, I can look at this for hours. Just wish I was there for this enlightening event. I am thinking the light you saw this morning was as dynamic and fantastic as what we saw on Traigh Mhor on the Isle of Harris. Addicted to Scotland and Scottish light I am definitely, especially now after seeing this.

Beautiful light and color. The sunbeams are a nice touch, and the tree really shimmers. Well done.

Wonderful layering here, Ian. Of course the fg light is awesome, but its the layers that hold all the depth, imo. Love it.

That tree and those mountains are really striking. I really like the well lit foreground and how they contrast with the stormy sky. The tree and the mid-ground mountains pull those two pieces together.
