Came upon these 2 Spotted Hyenas early one morning in the Kruger National Park. Overcast conditions at sunset. I liked the idea of a B&W conversion here...

All critique welcome!

Love the punchy B&W conversion here Morkel as well as the symmetrical poses and the DOF. Two small nits for me though; firstly the evident fact that they walk on a man-made road and secondly I would have preferred a bit more room on the left.

Thanks Vincent.Yes, I should have mentioned at the start - - one of the reasons the B&W was so compelling to me was it minimized the "visibility" of the road. An "unfortunate" thing in Kruger (at least for photography) is that predators love walking on the tarred roads...

Morkel, I really like the symmetry of the two hyenas as well as the DOF.

As I didn't get so much as a glimpse of hide nor hair of even a single Hyena during my time in Kruger, had this been mine I would have been over the moon ;^)

I really love the subject in sharp focus on the right, especially for the way you've rendered it in black and white, which certainly adds something extra, although in a perfect world I would much prefer this image if the secondary subject hadn't been there at all. As I say though, I'd be all too happy to have this as is in my collection Morkel, if only to remind me of the experience :^)

Hey Morkel,

This is a visually compelling image. While I hate to be a copy-cat, my first thoughts on the image are identical to what Vincent said! Oh, oh...too much group-think going on here??

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Hey Morkel, love the mirrored postures in this image. I'm in agreement about a touch more space to the left and as for the road, well, in Kruger its part of the game - the added bonus of course is that we get to see their toenails, and the road is the best place for that!!
