Landscape of Fantasy

For the fast majority of my landscape work I use tripod, but sometimes I just wish more freedom to explore compositions that are hard to do with a tripod. This was one such session.

I found this today after it had been sitting in my files in RAW format for one and a half years...

Quiver trees (Aloe dichotoma), Quiver tree forest, Namibia
Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Shutter Speed 1/100 Sec.
Aperture Value f/18
ISO Speed 640
Lens EF16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM @ 16mm + CP
HH
almost FF (small rotation correction)

Great light. I like the use of repetition here. Two technical things I might think about adjusting are the falling lines and the polarizer darkening of the sky. Otherwise it's wonderful.

I can relate to the freedom to shoot without a tripod and to quickly "test" some compositions. A reason why I like the iso 400&24-105mm IS combination

I like the composition, the tree on the left is great to view - it leads nicely into the scene and it is so nicely lit.

Vincent, I really like how you used the foreground aloe in your composition. It seems to frame the aloes on the left (in the background) nicely.

A very interesting view, and I like it very much. Those trees look fantastic with this light and I think your comp worked out great!

Love the comp...with the blank sky a b/w might be a better option. And definitely understand about the freedom of handholding. Nice find in the archives

What a beautiful and eyecatching composition. Of course, lovely subject matter to go for it.

Very nicely done, Vincent.
