Nest guard

My first non landscape post. I almost primarily photographed birds and wildlife before focusing more on landscape work. I still love wildlife photography, I just find myself using the wide angle lens the most.

Anyways, this is a shot from my trip to yellowstone last summer. My friend and I spotted a nest from the road atop a large tree with what looked like a bald eagle from a distance with the white head. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be an osprey nest. The osprey is my favorite bird so I was actually a little more excited about it. There were two large birds (male and female) that appeared to be feeding their offspring although they were never to be seen. The one osprey had left the nest to do some fishing along the river leaving just the one. The bird didn't seem to mind our presence and gave a few nice poses before we headed off. Comments and thoughts appreciated.

Peter, I always appreciate seeing an Osprey on a nest when we can't see a man-made nesting platform. At this size the bird looks good and it looks like your DOF covered most of the nest too. I also like seeing some sky patterns in the background like this.

Thanks Ron. I prefer finding natural settings for wildlife. Man made objects seem to take away the raw beauty of a scene. I did some selective sharpening on the bird itself then one layer of sharpening on the entire image.

Peter, I just commented on your egret and decided to go to your gallery. Your landscapes are beautiful but your avian images are great also. Go so show that a good photographer can capture any image. I hope to attain near your level of expertise someday.

Thanks Harry, I would hardly call myself an expert yet. I myself still have much to learn. It's a step by step process that takes years to master.
