Coyote Country Sunset

From the Pawnee National Grassland in Colorado a couple weeks ago.

I'd passed by the grassland numerous times over the years, never thinking much of it. I finally decided to check it out and it far exceeded my expectations.

As I made this image, the coyotes started howling en masse. Hiking back in the dark, I started thinking a bit too much about mountain lions and coyotes fancying me for dinner. :)

5DM2, f/16, 55mm. A two exposure blend.

Nice light. The scene is nice, but the light makes the image.

Well a little fear on the way back in the dark was worth it for this image. It looked okay in the thumbnail and fantastic in larger. The light is perfectly dappling the edges of the terrain. Real nice work Kory!

Love that subtle light touching the leaves and grasses. Nice work. Those coyotes a-singing had to be the perfect ending to a gorgeous evening.

Wonderful light brushing the tops of the grass and shrubs. It really makes them pop. Nice warm colors and great clouds, too. Well worth a coyote shiver or two.

Wonderful image. Love the light in the clouds and the spotlights on the brush. I know the feeling about coyotes. I have been stalked by them while doing night shoots in the dunes of Michigan. Thanks for sharing the image.

Excellent, Kory. You got the light at the absolute perfect moment. The sunlit areas make for some very strong focal points.

Wow, super light! That side-lit foreground is absolutely perfect to make a compelling compostion to balance the rest of the scene. Every element in the shot holds up well, without dominating the view. Even with those scary thoughts, I bet the memory -- including the sound of the coyotes -- is calling you back.

They don’t call it the magic hour for nothing….
Way to make use of the last rays. It's the sky and light that makes this right.

Beautiful light. Tough terrain for a stroll. But worth the effort.

You've capture the light on those grasses beautifully....wonderful warm colors highlighted there, and glowing on the ridge lines as my eye moves through the frame, up to the tinges of warmth in the sky....beautiful image.

Thanks, all.

Navin, no, I most certainly did not forget my flashlight. Without it, I'd probably have been a nervous wreck walking back.

Wonderfully delicate! Excellent job simplifying what, under different light conditions, would be a much more visualy jumbled scene.

I can't believe this image has not gotten more attention. The trail of lighted bush tops through the scene create fantastic depth. The color and light have a very natural feel. :toast: :toast:
