Female Daurian Redstart: Captured with a male (mate, perhaps) in Seoul, Korea. They were high up in the trees, and seemed to appear out of nowhere...and were gone just as quickly.

Canon EOS 60D
Lens: Sigma DG 120-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 APO OS HSM
Focal Length: 400mm
f8
Shutter 1/1000
ISO 640
HH
Cropped about 90%

Comments and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.

Good looking redstart -- you might try a portrait crop on this bird to see what it looks like -- the vertical crop would take out the oof vegetation in the lower left

The composition feels a little off to me on this. Feels like there is too much room on the left. Looking at the larger version, I'm wishing for more detail in the plumage. You said "Cropped about 90%".. If this is 90% of the frame, I'd expect a bit more detail.

Thanks Scott and Keith for your critiques. I did try a portrait crop, which I felt worked fine, but I went with this frame because I liked that it gave me more of a sense of being in the top of the tree. Also, maybe I'm using my terminology wrong when I state my crop: the 90% is how much I cropped off, so I'm only showing about 10% of the actual photo.

Ahh..... Since this is only 10% of the image, that explains my concern over the lack of detail. Pretty tough pulling out detail when the subject is that small in the frame.

Wonderful subject and pose Mark! Wow! That's a pretty big crop, even though I do agree that cropping it this way does give the appearance that you were more on eye-level with the subject. As a small file for the net this is fine for me, however, if this were mine I think I would have left a little more space between the RH edge of the frame and the tip of the bird's tail.
