Rock Garden Zen

I shot this in a little known location in southern utah last week. :) I choose the black rock for its color to oppose and balance the scene while leading the viewer into the scene. I also really like the little rock garden in the lower left corner adding some more interest. To retain a tack sharp image throughout I focus stacked this image since I was using this lens at its widest point.

This is a very pleasing composition and I like the flow from foreground to background as well as the contrast between the cottonwoods and the canyon wall.

Great use of wideangle perspective Todd. there is strong interest from foreground thru to the rock wall. very nice color contrast also.

Not so little known I think. I like how you framed the scene. But the whitewater is ... well ... too white in my opinion. Maybe a highlights adjustment will help. But I would suggest that a polarizer would have been best.

Thanks Jim, Once posted I thought the highlights might be a little hot too, i'll fix that for the print file.

This is beautiful. Agree with Jim about the highlights and will add that the lovely blue-black rock sitting right on the lower right border makes that corner look heavy. It's a great feature in the image, just maybe reposition a smidge higher…

Very nice Todd - From a comp standpoint, I would have liked to see more of the trees on the right to balance the left and maybe the full rock at the bottom. The colors look very natural, no hypersaturated reds which can be tempting with red rock shots.

Looks like you had some good color. Black rock is actually a blue rock IMO, and looks good.
