Tree Line

To obtain this photo three series of three images each at different exposure times were captured. Each series had a different tree as a focus point. Since the camera was handheld it was necessary to export all images to CS5 where they were aligned and cropped. HDR Efex Pro was then applied to each series of three to provide three HDR images. The images were then combined in Helicon Focus using focus stacking to improve the depth of field. Sharpening was applied using Sharpener Pro 3 and, finally, a grain texture using Eye Candy 6.

In this image I like how the HDR software has emphasized the natural texture of the trees.

All comments most welcome.

These are very impressive, large trees. They are located at the Riverwood Conservancy in Mississauga, ON. The Office Manager there, Brian Packham, has kindly provided me with the following information: The trees are Norway Spruce and were planted some years ago by the farmers that lived there to be used as a wind break for the fruit orchards in this area. Norway Spruce were used as they grow very quickly in Ontario. They are aligned along what is now known as the “Spruce Allee” and they are approximately 75 -80 years of age.

The original images were captured using a Canon 7D equipped with a EF24-105mm f.4L lens: ISO 400, 105 mm, f/11.

I recognize these trees from your post in WC a week or two ago. The stump is a nice point of interest and I do like the way the trunks pull my eyes from front to back. Neat idea, well executed.
