Every year on November 10th, they light the beacon at Split Rock lighthouse for a couple hours to commemorate the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
This is the only time of the year where the beacon is actually lit up and working.
I have never gone, due to the huge crowds. I decided to go this year because I had nothing better to do and I am glad I did. It was pretty cool to see. I have never witnessed this lighthouse actually lit up.

Nice capture. Thanks for reminding me that I should add this to my bucket list.

Hi Shawn, Pretty cool Shot! What a wonderful way to commemorate the Edmund Fitzgerald! I just got back from there about 1 hour ago (7 hours of driving each way). I was there shooting last night too...lots and lots of photographers! This year the full moon was the same night the lighthouse was lit, so too bad that we had all the clouds that kept it out of sight...but you made the best of it here. I think it will be at least 2030 before that happens again! Nice work capturing this one!

Neat shot. The blue sky and water provide a striking contrast to the lights and the photog silhouettes on the right are a nice addition. I do find myself wishing that the lighthouse was higher in the image so I could see the rest of the light's reflection, but that's a minor nit. This is really nice as presented.
