This is a three image composite taken on a recent trip to Yellowstone. Canon EOS 5DMK2, ISO 100, f/16, SS starting at 1/30s (+1,-1). 17-40mm at 20mm. Processed in Photomatix and CS5. Thanks for your critiques.

I like the composition and sky. I would lighten the foreground and mtn layers.

Lots of great elements here. I think the foreground could be stronger if the ridges were closer to the camera. Lightwise, could see trying to bring out more texture in the non-sky areas of the image.

I like what you were trying to accomplish here. But I agree with Tony that the composition would be much stronger if the features in the foreground were more prominent. The skeletal trees that are still standing add interest to the composition. But the one fallen tree in the foreground is a little distracting to my eye.

I already commented on HDR before when I looked at John Willemsen's image. Whenever I look at an image and immediately see that there's HDR involved, then something went wrong for me and I'm not too happy about the result. Of course this observation is only valuable if you wanted ti use HDR to overcome the problems of the restricted dynamic range instead of using it in an srtistic way. If this is an artistic choice then I just have to say that I'm not a great fan of that look.
Anyway - about the shot. Love the subject and the way the ground serves as a lead-in. The trees add a lot of mood, very nice. The 50/50 split is a matter of taste. With such a great ground I wouldn't have minded a bit more of it and sacrificing a little of the sky.

Hey gang, Thanks for the valuable feedback. The images I usually post on these forums (most of the time anyway) are those that I like but feel there is just something wrong...Tony I completely agree with adding more texture and consider that done. I do have another frame with much more FG but it didn't work for me. Andreas the reason I blended this image was because in my opinion it adds some dimension/depth to the clouds, guess that didn't work for you. Great feedback and I am going to try to re-work this one! Thanks again.
