Olympus E-3, 50-200mm at 137mm, hand-held, sitting on beach
f6.7, 1/500, ISO200

Deception Island, off the Antarctic Peninsula. A large, drowned volcanic caldera, the pumice beaches are warm to hot from volcanic heat. It was probably the only dry place I sat on the entire trip. Many birds, including Chinstraps, pick it for nesting because eggs more or less incubate themselves. The steep, welded tuff cliffs support half a dozen species of cliff-nesters, including a wide variety of tubenoses. An altogether amazing place.

90& of full frame. Usual sharpening drill.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Techs are great under difficult conditions. I like the low angle the textures of the front and back of these Penquins. I question why no catchlight? Time of day or night or whatever it was a the time? Brrr, looks cold
