Florida Keys

2 exposures were used to create this image. 1 with a 10 stop filter for 30 seconds to smooth the water and the 2nd image (1/80th) for the sky. Without a doubt the most difficult part of processing this image was creating a mask to separate the pier from the water. Most of it is hand blended (painted) as it was necessary to use different color balances for the wood of the pier and the water.

Canon 5DII 17mm f14 ISO 100

Beautiful image, since you mentioned it i notice something strange going on with the color of the pier int he lower left corner. Otherwise very interesting with the daytime sky and the typically twilight water effect. Which 17mm lens did you use?

Todd - I used the Canon 17-40. Actually, the discoloration existed on the dock and looked even worse once I got back to my computer... I've spent some time targeting that area to make it look more natural. Also had I been about 30 minutes later I could have avoided the rope shadows. I was happy to have the sky I had so I'm not being too picky about the dock...

A classic Key's scene with a great sky and well handled water. I see some blue encroaching on the lower left - not sure if that was natural or not and the edge of the dock shows some artifacts from processing

This is really well done. The slight discolorations don't bother me much. Great perspective.

I assume the reason to separate them out was the wb issue caused by the long exposure? Either way looks like the way I would have shot it. Love it. Now to find it :)
