Avocet Trio

I spent an afternoon a couple weeks back photographing a good number of avocets out along the causeway to Antelope Island here in northern Utah. This was one of my favorites from the day...

1DIV @ 700mm
1/1600 f/8 iso400

Thanks for taking a look!

John

This is teriffic. Really nice use of depth of field, placement of the birds in the frame and selection of aspect ratio for the presentation.
Sorry to ask this. What is a 1DIV?

This is fabulous! The only thing I could wish for would be less boring water, but hey, the subjects are just super! Sharon

One of those "once in a lifetime" moments perfectly captured.
Just having the leading bird would have been great :toast: :toast:

Super cool photo John  Excellent flight formation, with sharpness exactly where it counts. I wonder how this would look in B & W. just thinking out loud

Love the stacked effect. Perfect alignment of the birds and the pleasing drop off in the depth of field.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@Sharon... I totally agree - that Great Salt Lake water is not the best of backgrounds at times. ;-)

@Ken... Great idea! I think I'll look at a b&w version, and agree it may be interesting to see how it looks.

John, not often you can get them stacked like this and I like the fairly even spacing between the birds and the graduated DOF on the birds. I'm fine with the GSL background the way you've cropped the image. I'm imagining this same shot with the birds in breeding plumage for a little more color. I've spent a lot of time with these causeway avocets but probably ignore them more than I should...
